Q.1 Please tell us about yourself, what you do within the music industry?

A. Hey, my names Simon, aka Skuff, and I am a DJ/Producer. I’m part of a dnb group called Diverse Reality which includes myself, Uniques and Lady Bex. We are also part of the Rough Tempo Radio family, and have a fortnightly show every otherSunday evening.

Q.2 How did you first get introduced to music?

A. At a young age my parents bought a piano, I couldn’t play well, but if I heard a song, I could work out the notes, and recreate it, so I guess it all stems from there.

Q.3 What are your inspirations?

A. We’ll, where do I start?! Family first I guess. I have 4 young children, so they definitely inspire me to try and better myself in everything that I do. I listen to all kinds of music, but dnb is my main go to, especially the older, intelligent stuff. The thing that I love most about dnb, is that it is so versatile, and can be a funky little jazz number, big vocal power ballad, or a dirty dancefloor roller. So I always try to make something across the whole range. One day ill make a full on Liquid track, with rolling piano’s and sparkly bits, the next day I’ll be teching it up with a bit of neuro.

Q.4 Who are your musical idols?

A. Too many to mention, but in the drum and bass world i’d say London Elektricity, Calibre and LTJ Bukem are people that I have massive respect and admiration for.

Q.5 What music equipment do you currently use?

A. i7 windows 7 pc with 16gb Ram, Ableton 9, Reason, and far too many VST’S to list

Q.6 What is your biggest musical achievement to date?

A. There’s a couple that I’m really proud of, first one was performing some of our Diverse Reality tracks live at the HD festival, and more recently having my solo début release, which was mastered by Audio Animals, reach #2 in the Track It Down DnB charts

Q.7 How long have you been working in the music industry?

A.On and off for about 14 years now. I first started DJing, doing various events in my younger years, and playing on some of Essex’s biggest pirate stations (Renegade FM, and Lush). I also started to dabble in production, using Reason 1! (yeah that long ago) but never really took it seriously. Then due to personal reasons, I pretty much went into retirement for around 5 or so years, until I met up with my old friend Uniques. I instantly got the bug again, and we went on to form Diverse Reality.

Q.8 What are your musical plans for the future?

A. We (DR) have a lot of projects with a couple of respectable labels, that will be coming out this year and next, and i’m also working on a steady flow of solo releases for our Label Venomous Musik

Q.9 Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

A. Well I’m not the youngest any more, but i’d like to have been able to have made a decent living from the music I love
