Q.1 Hi guys. Please tell us about yourself, who you are, what you are about?

A. Both of us, Chris Prole and Chris York, are from Brighton, born and bred. Originally we met at school over 15 years ago and have always shared a love for dance music. Both of us studied music production at further education levels and have always had the drive to establish a career in the music industry.

We actually lost contact pursuing other things in life for a few years but came into contact again in the pub about 18 months ago! We then consistently developed music on a regular basis together and formed an excellent working relationship, this then led us to want to get heard and release our own material. Both of us had a vision that we could create our own brand, not only concentrating on releasing our own material but also giving others the opportunity of releasing theirs. We not only want to release music but be known also as a DJ package. So we formed Tweaking Tracks.

Q.2 So you had your release come out Monday care to tell us about it in some detail?

We decided on the title ‘Flavours’ for this EP as it demonstrates a fair few influences and styles from us ‘Prole & York’. We both come from slightly different electronic genres in the past, spanning from Old Skool and Breakbeat to Trance and Hard House. We now meet somewhere in the middle with various genres of House. All three tracks have a slightly different taste but sit closely together. The Flavours EP touches on our past, with today’s production techniques. As the Tweaking Tracks debut release, the Flavours EP reflects what the label is about. We are pretty broad minded and will not be sticking to specific genres as we love all sorts of electronic music!

Q.4 what are your plans for the future in terms of releasing music on tweaking tracks?

In the short term we want to focus on producing our own music as well as building an artist base where we can have a steady flow of releases over the coming months. Not only do we want to get the Tweaking Tracks name out there but we also want to get our artists names out there as well.

In the long term, we really want to make a brand out of ourselves. We want to put on club nights, be involved with promotion and really make an impact on the scene. At the heart of the label is the music production of course, so we also see the label moving into other directions such as sound design for sample and preset library’s, music for TV, Games and all sorts!

Q.5 something what I’m always really interested in. Can you tell us about your studio and audio gear?

We love our studio gear!! Both of us have our own studio’s with similar setups.

At the heart of both studio’s is Cubase 7.5 running on nicely specked PC’s, we are long term users stretching back to Cubase VST 3.1! Along side Cubase we have Maschine integrated (it just keeps getting better, version 2.0 is an excellent update). The Plugin list between us is pretty huge, we are big fans of all the Native Instrument stuff and are users of Arturia’s MiniV, Sylenth 1, Rob Papens Predator and Sub Boom Bass, Korg Legacy Collection just to name a few. Not to mention Cubase’s excellent Retrologue and Padshop! We also have a huge list of VST Effects and Compressors etc.

In terms of hardware, we have a few controllers, Novation Nocturn keyboards, Maschine Mikro, Akai MPD26 pads. We DJ with Traktor Scratch, the Tweaking Tracks DJ Rig includes Traktor Kontrol S4, X1, Z1 and F1… Oh and some Numark TT2 turntables for a good old vinyl mix! We do have a huge passion for analogue synths, are’s being a Arturia Microbrute, Korg Volca Bass and a Monotribe (also the Monotron’s) we want to get more and we will one day!!

Also in the studio’s we have Yamaha MSP and KRK Rocket 8 monitors, Focusrite audio interfaces. AKG, Rode, Sure and Focusrite mics. Guitars and Bass, full set of Blues Harmonicas plus anything else we may have left off the list.

Q.6 Do you have any production tips you can share with our readers?

Our main tip would be… Never trust tired ears. Always listen back to your work with fresh ears. What may sound perfect after an all night session in the studio will most likely sound pretty different the next day or even a week later. Also test your music on different sound systems and environments.

We would also say, you can never stop learning music production so always take a keen interest in other producers techniques and idea’s.

Q.7 It’s been a pleasure interviewing your guys and look forward to mastering for of your tracks. Any final words you’d like to share with our readers?

It has been a pleasure to do an interview with you guys, we love what Audio Animals do and the masters that you produce. We can’t wait to get more of our projects over to your studio for the finishing touch. We also want to say that the underground scene is a unity movement that isn’t genre specific and we are so majorly happy to be a part of it!
