Below is a basic step by step tutorial, how to EQ out unwanted frequencies in your sub bass. This is a fairly basic tutorial but you would be amazed at how many producers don’t do it. Step 1:

Analyse your sub bass in a spectrum analyzer. Look for frequencies that will conflict with the rest of your mix.

Step 2:

Once you have analyzed your Sub Bass you will be left with a similar image to this in your head.

Step 3:

Remove these unwanted frequencies using an eq with a precise lowpass filter. I personally will always use a UAD Cambridge Eq. One of the most precise eq’s in the box with a range of filter curves.
