Q1. Please tell us about yourself, what do you do within the music industry?
I am currently in University, studying ‘Popular Music and Production’. My dream for many years, has been to work in the Music Industry. I got homeschooled for my last 2 High School years, so I learned how to DJ once a week. My DJ tutor introduced me too music producing. I made a couple of tracks, went under the name ‘Snatch’ and study Music Tech in college. I really took to Audio Engineering, Live Sound Engineering and mixing (though I wasn’t great.) After a couple of months in Uni, I decided to reinvent my “Snatch” persona and become ‘Aaron Fletcher Audio’. I still occasionally produce and DJ, but, now, I’m a Studio Engineer in my Home Studio. Live Sound Engineer, doing the occasional job for friends here and there and now starting to mix and master.
Q2. How did you first get introduced to music?
I’ve always been around music. I grew up in church and Music was always one of the most important bits (in my eyes anyway). I did want to be in a band but couldn’t sing or play. It wasn’t until I was at a Youth Club when I was about 14, where the Leader brought his decks in, DJd and held an open mic session. As everyone crowded round the mic, I was infatuated with the decks. I left high school early and took up DJing lessons and then it went on from there.
Q3. What are your inspirations?
So cheesy/cliche but, family and friends. My Dad and I, have so many long conversations about music. He talks about the bands, artists etc. that he saw and loved when he was in his teens and early 20s. I learn so much from him, which really inspires me when I do what I do. Also, just listening to all different sorts of music.
Q4. Who are your musical idols?
My idols constantly change. One minute I love and worship one artist, the next minute another. The only 2 who’ve stuck with me, are Eminem and Dr. Dre. I’ve loved Eminem’s music since I was young and have followed him avidly over the last 6/7 years. His partnership with Dr. Dre, on a production level has taught me a hell of a lot. I spent months searching up their techniques and anything that could help me.
Q5. What music equipment do you currently use?
I’ve only just started building my home studio. I currently use a macbook with Pro Tools, Logic and Ableton on it. An Oxygen 25 workstation, a couple of Samson mic’s, an SE1000a and a Fast Track Solo. Currently on their way, are 2 SM57s, an SM58 and an Alesis MultiMix 8 USB FX.
Q6. What is your biggest musical achievement to date?
I got some Work Experience recording a band for their EP. One of the songs that was used, got played at some point during the Manchester Derby at Old Trafford this season.
Q7. How long have you been working in the music industry?
I started getting bits of work about 2 years ago.
Q8. What are your musical plans for the future?
I would love to be doing Aaron Fletcher Audio properly, making a living off it. I also want to set up a studio/charity, in a deprived area in Manchester. Where young people, can come and learn tricks of the trade. Write songs, sing/rap and learn to engineer. Teach them basics of any area of the music industry. I and my friends have experienced first hand, how good things like that are.
Q9. Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
Hopefully, Aaron Fletcher Audio will be making a good name for itself and hopefully my studio/charity will be up and running.
