Q1. What is Nothing To Lose and where did the name come from?
I have been DJing for around 12 years but although I dabbled in production, I was always to scared to put my everything into it in case I failed. One day I just woke up and realised I had Nothing To Lose and I was going to put everything into production.
Q2. What is your favorite genre of music to produce?
Definitely Drum & Bass. There is so much energy in it and it’s so versatile. It’s just a lot of fun.
Q3. What the biggest Dj you’ve had the pleasure of being on the same line up as?
I’ve played with Andy C a few times and he’s my hero but I’ve got to say Kentaro the night I played at Warehouse Project did the sickest set I’ve ever seen anyone do live, bar none.
Q4. In your studio what is your favorite piece of software or hardware?
I guess it would have to be Ableton Live. I love how intuitive it is to use. I put every tune through Logic too to get a more professional sound and to use some of the more complex features it offers but I love Live to bits.
Q5. Who’s your favorite artist and how have they inspired you as a producer?
Wow. It’s so tough to choose just one artist. Possibly Bad Company and the other projects Maldini & Vegas, D Bridge and Fresh have done since. Dynamic, interesting, Drum n Bass. Love em! When I first started making beats I wanted to make stuff that could be on Bad Taste Recordings. I went for that darker edged stuff with the hard drums and angry bass. Even the early BC stuff still inspires me as a producer.
Q6. Who would be your dream artist to remix or collaborate with?
Noisia. The stuff they make is out of this world. Love them. Oops already said love them. I guess I could say. I think they’re awesome!
Q7. If money was no issue what would you buy?
If money was no object, I’d buy a nightclub and put on great nights with huge headliners and decent, under appreciated up and coming producers and charge no entry fee.
Q8. Thanks for your time James. Any last words and Where can we find your music?
Thank you Paul. I’m absolutely loving making music at the moment. I am so blessed to be able to have the opportunity to work with so many talented singers, rappers and fellow producers. Thank you all so much. You can follow me at www.soundcloud.com/ntlmusic
