Q1. Please tell us about yourself, what you do within the music industry?
Hey, my name is Zariis and I’m an artist/producer based in Hertfordshire UK. Mostly I specialise in House Music, but I venture into sound design and I’m also a House/EDM music producer for the Sample company Primeloops creating construction kits for artists around the world.
Q2. How did you first get introduced to music?
From the age of around 7 years old I started learning Piano and I got hooked on sound and melody. Though I grew up listening to a lot of disco, Motown and commercial pop, It was really Jean Michel Jarre who captured my interest in electronic music. When I first heard Oxygen I wanted to know what made those amazing sounds and textures, so my musical journey started from then.
Q3. What are your inspirations?
I get inspired by people mostly, and other producers who push the boundaries sonically.
Q4. Who are your musical idols?
Jean Michel Jarre of course!
Q5. What music equipment do you currently use?
These days I’m mostly software based, I run Cubase on PC which I custom built to a high spec, I have been a user of Cubase since the late 80’s and absolutely adore it. Hardware wise I have a Roland Fantom, KingKorg and Yamaha 03D Digital Mixer, M-Audio BX8D2’s and EVENT ASP8 monitors. My list software/VST instruments, FX and sample database reads like a phonebook directory!
Q6. What is your biggest musical achievement to date?
I’ve had a pretty lengthy career in the industry from working with some of the biggest dance acts in the UK, collaborating with Grammy Nominated songriters and 80’s pop icons to even having a lead acting role in a movie! As an artist I have had several releases under various aliases and charted on Beatport, Trackitdown as well as high profile remixes in the US. But I think for me the best achievement is that I have a full-time job in the music industry with regular pay! Which ultimately is what we all aim for right?
Q7. How long have you been working in the music industry?
Q8. What are your musical plans for the future?
I think for me it’s just about creating music that I love and hopefully people get into and releasing more material. Working closely with Primeloops as one of their in-house content producers is really exciting for me as I get to really push what I do while creating content to help other producers get where they are going.
Q9. Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
Jeez.. at my age that’s the last thing I want to think about!!
