The “Alhambra EP” is the first EP release from the union of Christopher Tooker with Shawna Hofmann as KMLN. Reflecting their mutual love for culture, real musicianship, syncopated beats, organic instruments and modern electronic richness. The music paints a picture of their love for travel, and the excitement of physically diving into a different countries’ culture. The lead track Alhambra has a distinct flavor of adventure and sensual mystery. Its a story that builds and brings you through different worlds, from a Russian spy movie to a spaghetti western. The song continually evolves from beginning to end leaving no room for repetition, only vast exploration, featuring guitars by David Satori from Beats Antique, and Evan Fraser from Stellamara, under their band name Dirtwire, as well as live recordings by Christopher Tooker of KMLN playing guitars, percussion, beer bottles, live snare and bells. “Walam” was inspired by a KMLN trip to Bali, traveling between several Indonesian islands aboard an authentic wooden Bugi pirate ship, guided by Islamic prayers coming out of the many little mosques along their path. It’s a heartfelt journey into the dramatic and sultry side of the Middle East influence within that region. Produced, mixed and recorded in Bali, Indonesia, the smooth dub sounds are complimented by intricate live percussion by Christopher Tooker. Nico Stojan, a world renown DJ and producer from Berlin’s infamous underground Bar 25 and Katerholzig clubs, graces the EP with 2 stellar remixes of the title track “Alhambra”. The first “Dreams of Japan Remix” is a deep silky take on the original with additional percussion and layers of sonic field recordings from Japan. To finalize the EP, Nico’s “122 Rework” is a hypnotic dance floor adventure with constantly evolving chords, and a thick tribal groove, while maintaining the organic undertone musical elements of the original.
An international force and shapeshifting duo, KMLN (pronounced “Kameleon”) unites Italian producer/multi-instrumentalist Christopher Tooker and Canadian DJ/fashion designer Shawna Hofmann into a genre defying electronic sound that showcases their pioneering talent and global inspiration. May it be a prime time or sunrise set, they adapt to any surrounding and deliver unexpected genre-bending performances often featuring instrumentalists and dancers on stage, bridging the electronic and live music worlds and creating an unparalleled dance floor experience. As world travelers and cultural observers, KMLN creates an astonishing trip through time and music, blending elements of deep house/techno and global/future bass, moving through tempos with layers of intricate lush melodies, rolling basslines and organic rhythms. With releases on Crosstown Rebels, Endless, Touch of Class and its own label KMLN records, their music is played by many DJs including Acid Pauli, M.A.N.D.Y, Jamie Jones, Damian Lazarus, Thugfucker and Luca Bacchetti.

About Nico Stojan
Nico Stojan‘s rise within the Berlin house scene started with a residency inside the famed walls of Bar 25. His sets there always had the Stojan stamp – house with modern injections of jazz and soul that honored his past as one of Germany‘s best hip hop DJ‘s. When Bar 25 closed its doors, new ones had already begun to open, and his deep, almost pensive take on Berlin night music had him spending his weekends playing clubs such as Panoramabar, Watergate and of course, Bar 25‘s spawn, Katerholzig. A classically trained clarinette player, he often surrenders its sound live, weaving it through the lusty mood of his sets – it was only natural that he evolved from DJ to producer and soon the Berlin underground were being treated to his own releases on labels such as Highgrade, Connaisseur and Upon You records. Collaborating with other artists has been an important role on his journey – leading to projects and remixes for the likes of Philip Bader, NU, Pele, Acid Pauli and Andri to name a few. With his European successes having taken him all over the continent, Nico‘s fate pushed him onto an international platform. Venturing to bottom of the earth, he has taken bookings all over the Pacific ocean whilst being the right man for the job in supporting international acts when on tour. Having had residencies since he was 16 and a feel for music that is apparent through every set and release that makes bloom, this kid from Kreuzberg really has his path set out.
