Lets start by getting one thing straight, this VST instrument is from a time when the world was a much simpler place and everyone wasn’t offended by everything. Not that the V Station is offensive in any way. OK so the V Station isn’t going to win any awards now, when compared to the likes of Serum.
The V Station is a simple instrument that can make a great deal of sounds. It just sounds like it’s from the 90’s. Which it is. I had the hardware VA synth back in 2003 and loved it. It was a brilliant little synth back then. One of the better affordable synths a lot of people had. The remake into a VST version was the logical next step. Pretty much what you hear in the VST is similar to what you hear on the Virtual analogue hardware. The controls and way the two versions work is identical from what I remember.
So Has It Got A Place In Today’s Modern Industry?
I’d say 100% yes. Yes the sounds are dated but that’s what makes it great. I mean listen to the sounds in the video below. Doesn’t it make you want to make a Stranger Things inspired retro Casio sounding track. That’s what it’s ideal for. It’s no Moog Voyager analogue powerhouse but what it is is a remake of something that was iconic way back when. Had a sound everyone loved. So yes I feel it is still relevant and could easily make it’s way into anyone’s song.
The conclusion is easy. If you are buying it for cheap it’s a no brainer. The sounds are kind of iconic retro kind of sounds. You’ll find a place for them in any electronic production. Control of the VST is good. It’s not going to win any awards in this day and age but it’s well worth having in your arsenal. Pick it up for £14.95 from the link above it’s a steal. And if you don’t like it you never know one day it be just the VST you were looking for, for that one retro esc sound. I recommend it, I use it, I reviewed it because I want others to pick it up on sale and make use of it. Enjoy it, get it cheap, you’ll enjoy playing with it.
