The Kevin Mugisha Album Project is a collection of 15 drum and bass tracks ready to download from the link below. All proceeds go to funding Kevin’s flight tickets from Uganda to America where he will be united with his new family. Kevin’s family in Uganda died from HIV/aids and he has been living in the forest for a number of years. Recently the drum and bass community worked together to raise money to get Kevin into rented accommodation. Now Kevin is in the final stages of being in a life changing situation. Your help and support is massively appreciated.

Kevin’s home in Uganda and his love for the drum and bass community. Little did he know that this community was going to change his life for the better. Thanks to the drum and bass community raising £1200 Kevin was able to move into rented accommodation and kit his new room out with a sofa, tv, cooking supplies, fan and christmas tree. The drum and bass community have been sending kevin gifts such as a new phone, t-shirts and other items we take for granted every day. Kevin now has a new passport, dental care. Kevin’s story is something I’ve been following for many months on facebook. He’s become quite the online celebrity within the drum and bass community, and quite rightly so. Such a humble, gracious well mannered man who deserves all the help he has received. This is a truly inspirational story that has captured the hearts of thousands. And who better to tell you about it than Lloyd Shettle the organiser of The Kevin Mugisha Album Project.
Lloyd Shettle Interview
Q1. Ok so let start at the beginning. What’s Kevin’s story why has this album come about?
Well this whole project started when Kevin posted in some Drum and Bass groups on Facebook looking to make new friends. He told us he had been listening to various Drum and Bass tracks and was a fan of the music, and also gave us a little bit of information about himself living in Uganda in a forest with his neighbours. Of course with the internet being the internet, initially everyone thought he was either a fake account or some sort of online scammer, and some members of the group were quite happy to voice their opinion and start posting nasty replies. However Kevin shrugged these off and continued to try to meet new dnb friends online, and after several months of this going on and monitoring his Facebook page, myself and Mark Spendlove realised that he was being very truthful about his home and his living conditions. Eventually myself and Mark became friends and we started to chat about him. We dug a little deeper together and discovered he was truly on the verge of perishing, living out of bushes and drinking contaminated water from a lake. That’s when myself and Mark decided to see if we could get a small group together and see if we could help Kevin out a little bit. We never thought this whole project would get as big as it has now. Of course it was difficult, we had many nights brainstorming and trying to muster up some sort of plan to stop him from wasting away, but slowly and with the power of some good hearts and the internet, we started a go fund me.
Q2. What’s the goal you aim to achieve by releasing this album?
We hope to raise the money to purchase Kevins flight tickets to Pensacola, Florida, USA where he will be united with a wonderful family that wish to adopt him. After the initial news about our project to help Kevin got out and we discovered his parents were killed from the AIDS virus, it spread like wildfire, and we managed to raise around £1200 from the dnb community in just over a month with over 750 shares. We are at the final chapter of this story now, and this is the last push to get him out of Uganda and into a loving family that he deserves.
Q3. This is truly an inspirational story. Why did you decide to do all this? I mean we all want to help but to go to the lengths you have is something else. You have literally changed the life / saved the life of one individual.
I believe in karma and the ‘secret.’ Positivity attracts positivity back, and I have always felt inclined to do something good for anyone less fortunate then myself. There is too much doom and gloom in the world, all you see broadcast all over the media is negative stuff. Myself and Mark might have made his life better, but we also believe that we raised a lot of awareness about people that are not as lucky as us, and maybe stirred up peoples emotions along the way. I simply cannot describe the feeling that I had to wake up and check my Facebook, and see photos of Kevin having food on the table with hundreds upon hundreds of producers and fans commenting and supporting him. It was overwhelming and that’s the only feeling we ever wished to gain out of this.
Q4. You should feel so proud of all you have achieved. The album releases today. How can people download the album and contribute to helping Kevin get to America and start his new life with his new family?
We are incredibly happy to see how far he has come and the amount of support we have received has been insane. This wouldn’t have been possible without every single person that has helped along the way, so let me take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you personally. Not one donation gets overlooked. We see you!!
The album can firstly be purchased from my personal PayPal address: flyingfish666@hotmail.co.uk (Yes I was 12 when I made it, no hate plz) From there I will personally email a direct download link to the email address provided with the transaction. This will ensure Kevin receives 100% of the donation.
The secondary option is it will be available on my Soundcloud page: www.soundcloud.com/deviation-dnb which will link to my Bandcamp account: https://deviationdnb.bandcamp.com/ for those who want to purchase through a known site.
We need to sell between 150 – 200 copies of the album at £10 a piece to reach the price of the flight ticket. Its a big goal but doable!
